Images
Drop, paste or import images into your documents, and give each one a cover.
A picture is worth a thousand words, and in PMKIN it doesn't even count toward your word count. Add images to the body of a document, give each document a cover, and PMKIN takes care of storing and shrinking them.
Add an image to the text#
Pick whichever is handiest:
- Drag and drop an image file onto the document.
- Paste an image you copied, like a screenshot or an image you copied from another app.
- Use the Add image button. Put the cursor on an empty line and choose the round Add image button beside it.
The image appears right away with a progress indicator while it uploads. Keep writing; you don't have to wait.
Upload, use a URL, or import one#
The Add image button gives you three choices:
| Tab | What it does |
|---|---|
| Upload | Choose an image file from your device. |
| From URL | Show an image from another site, as it is. That site can change or remove it later. |
| Import URL | Copy an image from another site into PMKIN, so it keeps working if the site changes. |
Tip: Prefer Import URL over From URL. Linking to an image on someone else's site works until the day it doesn't.
Edit an image#
Click an image in the text to select it. A toolbar appears where you can:
- write its Alt text, the description screen readers read out and search engines use,
- Replace image with another one,
- Move image up or Move image down,
- Delete image.
You can also drag a selected image to a new spot, or move it with Alt+↑ and Alt+↓.
Note: Always add alt text. Describe what the image shows, like "The publish button with its schedule menu open", not "image" or "screenshot".
Add a cover image#
A cover is the big image above the title. Your website can show it at the top of the post and in lists of posts.
- Choose Toggle details in the editor's header to open the details panel.
- Under Cover image, upload a file, use a URL or import one, just like images in the text.
The cover then shows above the title in the editor, as it will be published. Use its buttons to Replace cover image or Remove cover image.
Formats and sizes#
- Formats: JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF and AVIF.
- Size: up to 10 MB per image.
Big photos are shrunk in your browser before they upload, to at most 2560 pixels on their longest side, and saved as WebP. That keeps uploads fast and pages light for your readers. GIFs, and WebP or AVIF images that already fit, are left exactly as they are, so animations keep moving.
When something goes wrong#
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| This file type isn't supported. | Save the image as a JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF or AVIF and try again. |
| This image is larger than 10 MB. | Resize or compress it, then try again. |
| We couldn't read this image. | The file may be damaged. Export it again from the app it came from. |
| Enter a full image URL starting with https://. | Copy the image's full address, including https://. |
| The upload took too long. | Check your connection and try again. |
Images and markdown#
In the document's markdown, an image is a line like this:

The text in the square brackets is the alt text. See markdown and formatting for the rest of the syntax.
